The Acalanes’ offense is scary. Scary fast, scary tough, scary good. The Acalanes Defense is scary. Scary for any offense that has to face them on a chilly pre-Hallows Eve Friday night. Even though there were early worries for the Dons, who fell behind a couple of times, ultimately the Dons were too difficult for the Matadors to cage, and…
The Acalanes Dons JV football team had not lost to the Miramonte Matadors since November 4, 2016. Nearly 6 years later, with a first down on the Mats 34-yard line, a 28-15 lead, and 3 minutes and 27 seconds left in the game, the Dons were probably confident that they would be able to keep the winning streak going. In…
The Dons had a spooktaular game on Thursday against the College Park Falcons. It was a harrowing fright for the Falcons when the Dons scored within the first few seconds of the game. The Dons were fangtastic on offense and defense and by Halftime the nail was in the coffin for the Falcons. But take note, even though the victory…
Ridin’ High, Ridin’ High, Ridin’ High, after a rough week where the Dons fell just short of victory, they wasted no time getting a bit of revenge on a Benicia High team that had beaten them at home just last year, with a 48-7 win at Benicia. All in all the defense held the Panthers to only 84 yards while…
A White Elephant gift exchange is a holiday tradition where participants vie to walk away with the best present by either picking a wrapped gift or taking a previous participant’s unwrapped gift. The game between the Acalanes and Benicia JV football teams seemed to follow a similar format given the number of gifts exchanged in the form of penalties, fumbles,…
On a hot October evening, with the temperature a sweltering 86 degrees at kickoff, the Acalanes Dons freshmen football team welcome the Matadors of Granada to Acalanes Stadium. Handshakes are exchanged, a coin is tossed, and the Matadors defer the ball to the second half, giving the Dons the first crack at putting points on the board. #22 Illias Kaplanes-Jones…
Anything that lasts needs to be built with a strong foundation. With buildings, the foundation is underground, unseen but absolutely critical to whatever is built on top. No matter how ornate and expansive the trappings of the building might be, it all is for naught if the foundation isn’t solid. On a football team, the foundation is built on the…
The first reality TV show, “America’s Candid Camera”, aired in 1948. Reality TV emerged as a distinct genre in the early 1990s with MTV’s “The Real World” followed by shows such as “Survivor”, “American Idol”, and the “Bachelor”. In football, there is HBO’s “Hard Knocks” which follows NFL teams through training camp, and of course “Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making the Team” which…
We woo woo’ed, we yelled, we stomped, we cheered, we jumped up and we high fived; each game is a triumph of the spirit of what a football family really looks like. Whether our boys win or lose – Dons show up! Thursday night the Dons came home on the bus with a V-I- C-T-O-R-Y! We love our Dons! That’s…
It has been said that there are three parts to a high school football season. The five games before league games start, the five league games, and, hopefully, the playoffs. Many schools choose to schedule easy games during the pre-league schedule, especially in leagues that are very competitive, like the DAL Foothill. However, this was not the case with our…
