The Acalanes Dons softball team faced a challenging stretch last week, dropping back-to-back games against Encinal and Las Lomas to bring their season record to 6–4. Despite the outcomes, the Dons showed moments of strong play and resilience against tough competition. On Tuesday, Acalanes took on Encinal but fell 16–6 in a high-scoring matchup. The Dons struck first in the…
The San Diego Lions High School Baseball Tournament is one of the biggest and most respected high school baseball events in the United States. Held each year during spring break in San Diego, the tournament features over 150 teams from across California, other states, and even international programs. It has been a proud tradition since 1951 and is known for its…
Acalanes had a tough outing, falling to Miramonte 15–6 in a game that didn’t quite live up to its expected hype. Whether it was spring break on the brain or a short-handed roster, the Dons just couldn’t find their rhythm and struggled to gain — or keep — possession all night. At one point, fans even shuffled seats in a…
The Varsity Dons met up with Las Lomas Monday on another beautiful spring day at Contra Costa Country Club. Although the team struggled a bit at the start, Acalanes beat the Knights 200-215. Low round went to Durham Vail (Jr) with an even par 36. The team met next on Wednesday at Rossmoor taking on Albany. One again, Durham Vail…
The Cougars came out swinging, jumping to an early 2-0 lead and looking to run away with it. But the Dons had no intention of rolling over. Grant Condy ignited the Acalanes sideline with a laser over the middle to put the Dons on the board. Moments later, Luke Dafferner threaded a needle-perfect pass to Caleb Mason, who buried it in the net to bring…
When I put together the lineup Wednesday night for Thursday’s Las Lomas match, I took a few player requests into consideration. I also studied the Las Lomas roster and results so far this year. We looked stronger on paper, but jiggering with the lineup created risks. To appease the boys yet allow me to get some sleep, I put out…
First time in six seasons… the JV Dons came out on top over Campo. Due to some schedule juggling, it was the third time the Dons had seen Campo in as many weeks. And with a few players missing from his lineup for this home match, Coach Gary had to go through some lineup gymnastics and ended up netting the 6-5…
On another beautiful Tuesday evening, the 6-2 Varsity Girls Lacrosse team traveled to Moraga to take on the 7-0 cross-town rival Campolindo Cougars. The teams split the two meetings last year scoring 24 goals each, with the Dons winning the second game via a sudden death overtime goal that sent them into the D1 NCS Playoffs. The Dons were looking…
We knew going into today’s match that we were the heavy favorites. College Park has a lot of young players and will only get better over the next few years. The message to our boys beforehand was to be gentlemen and to stay focused on their game plans – sometimes letting your guard down leads to losses. As you can…
On Thursday, March 19, the Dons took on Clayton Valley Charter High School at home. While still technically winter, the weather was warm and the track was fast. Varsity boys and girls both scored another dual victory over the Ugly Eagles, and the frosh-soph boys won as well. Some highlights from the meet include the boys 4×100 Matthew Schwarz, Illias…
