Sept 9 – Saturday Sports

In Friday’s action…
The football team defeated Rodriguez HS 35-10.  The jv team was nearly perfect in victory 44-0.
The boys water polo team defeated Ponderosa HS 14-4 and Rio Americano HS 15-4 in the Menlo Invitational.
The girls tennis team defeated Leland HS and Redwood HS before falling to Santa Margarita HS in the Fresno Invitational.
In Saturday’s action…
The girls water polo team hosts the Acalanes Invitational.
The boys water polo team competes in the Menlo Invitational.
The jv boys water polo team competes in the Miramonte tournament.
The girls tennis team competes in the Fresno Invitational.
The cross country team competes in the Ed Sias Invitational.
The jv girls volleyball team competes in the Dougherty Valley Invitational.
Friday’s individual standouts…
Robby Rowell completed 14 of 24 passes for 244 yards, scored on a 32 yard run and threw three touchdowns to Brian Merken, who had 6 receptions for 121 yards.  Chris Rogers also had 6 receptions for 65 yards.  Nick Price had 4 receptions for 49 yards, and Tommy Thrasher 3 receptions for 61 yards.  Jake Delaney had 3 receptions for 45 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.  Nick Kresnak completed 9 of 11 passes for 109 yards.  Defensively, Seth Pezman had 5 tackles, Alex Cortessis 4 tackles and Nick Bettencourt 3 tackles.

Sept 7 – Thursday Sports

In Wednesday’s action…
The girls golf team was defeated by Irvington HS.
The freshman football team mounted a 19 point 4th quarter rally to defeat Petaluma HS 31-15.
Wednesday’s individual standouts…
Girls golf.  Avalon Schenone shot a 41 on a 9-hole par 36 course.
Freshman football.  Brady Huchingson completed 23 of 29 passes for 337 yards, 4 touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.
Tom Heyman was an offensive standout with 8 receptions for 97 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the touchdown that put the team ahead to stay.
Jackson Aris-Dumas had 5 receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Drew Davidson had 5 receptions for 77 yards.
Thomas Schrader was a defensive standout.

Sept 5 – Tuesday Sports

In Saturdays action…
The football team defeated Suncoast HS, Florida 21-14.
The JV team defeated Northern Valley Regional HS, New Jersey 24-6.
In Tuesdays action…
The cross country team competes in the Monte Vista Invitational at Oak Hill Park at 4:00.
The water polo teams play at Tamalpais HS.  Varsity boys at 4:30, JV boys at 5:30, Varsity girls at 6:30 and JV girls at 7:30.

Aug 29 – Girls Volleyball Comes Back for a Win

Your Acalanes Dons Girls Volleyball team started off their season with a non league home match against Deer Valley HS. The defending CA State D3 Champions were excited to get back on the court and see what they’ve got this season. Here we go…

1st Set
2-2 Maddie Kalil gets it going with a nice set to Grace Higgins for the kill.
3-2 Teresa Nevins (Tnev) brings it with a stuff block – Point!
4-2 Madi Risch serves up an Ace
6-2 Tnev with the overpass pound
7-2 Risch with another Ace! Forces a DV timeout.
9-3 Roxy Cummings says “I’m baaack!” with a KILL
10-5 Higgins with another “5” kill
11-5 Lane Webster floats in a back corner Ace
13-7 Elsa Clever joins Cummings for a big block
14-8 Webster to Risch who tools the block
15-11 Tnev SHUTS DOWN a dump attempt. Says “not in my house!”
20-18 Hayes Hollar makes her debut with a sweet kill on the outside.
21-18 Webster skims the ball off the top of the net for an ace.
22-20 Elsa Clever tips the ball into a hole for a kill.
23-20 Webster dumps the ball for a kill.
24-23 Risch kill for set point; but DV says, “not so fast…”
24-26 Set goes to DVHS

2-4 Kaitlyn McKendell follows that up with an ace
4-4 Sam Darin gets in on the action with an oppo kill
6-5 Cummings brings the heat – point!
7-7 Darin rips another one
8-8 Big Clever block
10-10 Clever rips a “1” – fire!
14-17 Tnev gets big in the middle with another block
15-17 Sweet Risch kill from the back row
18-20 Kalil decides she’d like to get in on the hitting action and puts one down off a Webster set
21-20 Risch big block
22-25 Set goes to DVHS; Dons must figure out how to close!

3rd Set
1-1 Sarah Westergren debuts with a kill off the Rachel Go set.
2-1 Clever with another ROOF
4-3 Westergren says “I’d like some more please!” and scores another point
6-3 Webster with the Ace
7-3 Risch gets it going with a BIG RIP
8-3 Another Ace from Webster
9-3 Cailey McVay debuts on D with a great up that Risch uses for a kill;
10-3 Risch throws one to the back corner – point! Dons are rolling now!
12-7 Tnev pounds a “1”
14-11 Darin with a sharp angle kill
15-11 Darin AGAIN
16-11 Zoe McPhail, playing solidly as libero for the match, makes a great up and Clever finishes it off.
18-11 All Dons on the court get in on this point with great all around hustle and Westergren ends it with a kill.
23-17 Hayes RIPS one for a point
24-18 Darin sends one to the back line for a kill; set point. Can the Dons close this one out?
25-18 Yes they can! On to the 4th…

Cross Country

XC Athlete of the Week:

Riley Noon – Riley has started this cross country season off with a bang. The benefits of his summer training were on full display this week, as well as his ability to be one of our new team leaders. This is Riley’s third year on the team, and we anticipate it to be his best so far!
