Fun, Competitive Win for Frosh/Soph Girls Soccer Over Campo 1-0

The Acalanes Girls Frosh/Soph team’s first weekday game on Thursday, January 25th against Campolindo started quickly with an attack that led to a shot and a big save by keeper Amelia Riley (#3). The Dons responded with sustained pressure keeping the ball in Campo’s half. Holding midfielder Eloise Greeson (#11) sent winger Mila Ellis (#22) through, but the shot was saved. Forward Aliyah Vazquez-Fireman took another shot and it was saved again. Campo had two good attacks on the left that were shut down by center back Natalie Hamill (#21). Holding midfielder Brooke Rardin (#12) passed to winger Svea Staino (#14) who sent it to center midfielder Riley Zirkel (#20). Riley shot to the right, beat the keeper and scored the first and only goal of the game. Lots of good attacking from the Dons continued throughout the second half but was held back by a solid Campo defense. The game ended 1-0 to the Dons; an excellent comeback from the previous weekend’s defeat.

The Dons will travel to Miramonte on Tuesday at 3:30 for another mid-week match up. Let’s go, Dons!
