freshmen.  The large roster reflects the continued strong growth in this sport nationwide. The team jumped right into a scrimmage against Castro Valley on their very first day of the following week followed by two practices to prepare for their opener.

 

The Lady Dons JVers traveled to Piedmont last Thursday night for their first game and emerged with 19-0 shutout win.  The Dons rode a stout defense and two thrilling long runs to secure the victory. Norah Taylor and Keva Bogan led the defense with four flag pulls each, Daphne Hwang contributed three more, and 10 other players chipped in with at least one apiece.  Margaret Stirling made a key late interception to seal the victory and also contributed some nice runs from scrimmage. Ximena Espinosa Angel opened the Dons scoring on their first drive with a 5 yard scamper into the end zone, followed by a 55 yard catch and run by Taylor and a 53 yard sprint by Maria Sakaguti in the fourth quarter. Morgan McIlvaine contributed an electric punt return and Clara Sargent made a couple of nice flag pulls. The JV squad also showed a lot of resiliency by overcoming numerous tightly called penalties against Acalanes. 

The JV girls continue a busy opening stretch with games at Freedom and home  against Monte Vista this week.
