Lucky Rainbow, Dominant Dons: Acalanes Girls Varsity Lacrosse Controls the Game in 14–9 Victory Over Piedmont

Under a sky that couldn’t quite decide what it was doing, the Acalanes Dons found their sign of good fortune—a brilliant rainbow stretching over the field just before game time. The team took it as a lucky omen… and it didn’t disappoint. With the rain clearing just in time for the opening draw, Acalanes went on to defeat Piedmont 14–9 in a game that was as sharp as it was spirited.

From the first whistle, the Dons took control and never looked back. Their transition game was especially impressive, moving the ball seamlessly from one end of the field to the other with crisp, purposeful passes that consistently turned into scoring opportunities. It was fast, fluid, and fun to watch—lacrosse played the way coaches dream it up.

On attack, it was a true team effort. Eleven of the Dons’ 14 goals came off assists, highlighting their unselfish play and strong field awareness. Emily Roberts led the charge with 4 goals and 1 assist, while Charlotte Gellman and Grace Colacco mirrored each other with standout performances—each tallying 3 goals and 3 assists. Kelly Reidenbach added 2 goals and 1 assist, and contributions kept coming from Christina Hageboeck (1 goal, 1 assist), Ximena Espinosa (1 goal, 1 assist), and Cate Mercier, who chipped in with an assist.

The midfield unit set the tone early and often, dominating draw controls and giving Acalanes the possession edge all game long—a key factor in their offensive rhythm. Kelly Reidenbach led the way with 8 draw controls, followed by Grace Colacco with 5, Reese Imrie with 3, and Kate Beaver with 2.

On the hustle side of things, Kate Uffleman came up with two key loose ball recoveries, while Reese Tierney, Kate Beaver, Emily Roberts, Julia Lyons, and Kelly Reidenbach each secured one—small moments that added up in a big way.

Defensively, the Dons held firm, keeping Piedmont to single digits and shutting down momentum whenever it threatened to build. In goal, Sarah Hession anchored the effort with 7 strong saves, coming up big when it mattered most.

All in all, it was a complete performance—team-oriented, energetic, and just a little bit magical.

Next up, the Dons return to their home field Friday at 7 PM to take on Campo. If the rainbow was any indication, this team might just have a little extra luck on their side—come out and cheer them on!
