JV Girls Lacrosse Keeps on Rolling with Two More Wins Over Carondelet and University

The Junior Varsity girls lacrosse team took down Carondelet and University for the second year in a row.  Each game basically over in the first half.

Dons vs Carondelet

The First game was Friday night against the Carondelet Cougars who came into Aca with an incredibly winning tradition in Women’s Lacrosse.  HA-Final Score Dons 15 and the Cats 4.  Once again the Dons started out a bit slowly as the Cougars scored the first goal on the draw to a fast break.  However the Dons went on to score the next 9 goals of the first half while not giving up another by Carondelet.  With three by “tenacious” Talia Tichnor, two by “Swifty” Samantha Swift, two by Ella “Cool and Calm” Culbertson, one by Savanna “the Rookie” Martinez and one by Cate “Shows No Mercy to opponents” Mercier.  THAT WAS ONLY IN THE FIRST HALF!    The Rookie went on to score three more in the second half and No Mercy scored another also.  Eloise Greeson got her first goal of the season also!

Svea “the Storm” Staino rained on the Cougs with four assists and Stella “I’m Groot” DeGroot added and additional assist to her incredibly steady play.  I still have not mentioned the Fab Four on Defense but once again they easily shut down another strong opponent.  Maddie “Little General” Obertello, Julia “Lightening” Lyons, Molly the “Wall” Jones, Ruby the “Glove” Bogan along with Livvy Lewis, Bea Deignan and Penny Haslam sent the Kitty Cats back to Concord wondering what had just hit them.  Goalie Choe Lloyd joined the fun with 7 saves!  The most by a Dons Goalie so far this year.

So many other players contributed including Michela Barbano (she is soon deserving of a nickname!), Chloe Vignoles, Tatum Walsh, Avila Payne, Delphine Fisher, Lexi Chaput, Alexa Wall, Willa Wilcott, Genevive Tenorio, Colby Bailey, Nin Fairman, Yali Avrahami and Natalie Burciaga.

A game that was supposed to be close turned into a route with the Lady Dons completely dominating in every facet of the game.  Carondelet was a good team and the Lady JV Laxers turned them from Cougers into timid kitty cats.  A great Win for this spunky team with the sideline and the fans contributing with so much excitement!

Now for the Second Magnificent Game this week:

ACALANES vs University

From the start the Dons dominated the Red Devils.  However, the Devils like the Dons worked hard.  They were just out matched and the Dons were just to talented and they played a fantastic game to win 15 to 2.  The Dons had 34 girls from the team that were able to play as the team was missing a few injured players including Allie “Smooth” Schofield who still showed up to cheer the others on.  All 34 players played significant minutes for the Dons in this one.  If I were to go over all of the highlights of this game it would take at least ten pages so I will just point out a few of them below. However, the biggest highlight of this game to this old Coach was seeing all of the experienced and inexperienced players rooting on their teammates.  It was so loud they probably heard it back in SF.  The spirit and support of these young ladies for one another was incredible and truly what high school sports should be about!

Some Highlights:

Cate Mercier 5 goals on five shots.

Svea Staino three assists and a goal.

Ella Culbertson two goals, one assist, three ground balls and two saves at Goalie!

Talia Tichnor had two goals and two draw controls.

Samantha Swift with two assists.

Stella DeGroot with a beautiful assist.  Savanna Martinez had several ground balls and a Draw Control

Lexi Chaput had three shots and controlled the ball well.

Eloise Green was everywhere all the time!

The Fab Four Defenders played D and Midfield with Julia Lyons, Molly Jones, Maddie Obertello all getting multiple ground balls which Ruby Bogan scoring a goal and getting five loose balls.   Livvy Lewis, Bea Deignan, Penny Haslam, Avila Payne, Alexa Wall, Delphine Fisher, Claire Morgan and Colbie Bailey all shut down University with many controlling loose balls including 3 by Alexa, 2 by Avila, 1 by Colbie and Bea Scoring her First Goal as a Don!

Yali Avrahimi had a magnificent goal!

Taryn Stevenson made a couple of beautiful plays and Scored!

New Middies Michala Barbano, Tatum Walsh, and Chloe Vignoles all ate big time and Chloe scored a goal!

Attack players Talia Burciaga, Genevieve Tenoria, Willa Wolcott, Olivia Bush and Nina Fairman all played great and controlled the ball.

And of course goalies Chole Lloyd and Persephone Quine were almost impenetrable in Goal!

All in all another fantastic day for this wonderful team who is now 5 wins and 0 losses for the season with a win streak of 23 games dating back two years.  Boy these Young Ladies are so good!

GOOOOOOO Dons
