Track & Field: Boys win DAL Title, 21 athletes Qualify for Tri-Valley Championships

On another wet and windy, non-track and field like day that seems to have permeated much of this season, the Acalanes Boys team ran and jumped over the competition to win the DAL Championship! The Girls faired well, finishing 5th of 11 despite their small team and some scheduling challenges as the meet was delayed four hours due to the rough weather.

In the DAL Championship, the top 6 athletes in each event win team points and qualify for this week’s Tri-Valley Championships, a combined championship of the Diablo Athletic League, East Bay Athletic League and the Bay Valley Athletic League to be held at Pittsburg HS on Saturday May 11), 30 teams in all.  The DAL is very competitive so it takes incredible performances to move on to the Tri-Valleys, of which we had many!

Frosh-Soph

The boys frosh soph team performed very well also, taking a solid third place in Championship and showing a consistent Acalanes theme of speed and ability, winning the 4×100 (Finley Rivera, Benjamin Mickelson, Luca Oatham, Trevor Krick), the 200 (Mickelson), discus (Stoneman) and had many other point scoring finishers across multiple events.

A number of other sophomores not mentioned also competed very strongly on the varsity teams, which bodes well for the future of ACA track including–Harry Zimmerman, Matthew Schwarz, Grant Ricker, Bryce Birdsong, and Neve Murphy to name a few.  Well done!
