Varsity Baseball Loses First Game

The Varsity Baseball team lost their first game of the season on Thursday against the College Park Falcons in Pleasant Hill 5-1. The loss ended a 17 game winning streak this season that is actually a 19 game winning streak for the program, counting the last 2 games won at the end of the 2023 campaign. Both of these benchmarks are school records. The team has been on an unprecedented, historical run.

Isaac Copen started on the mound for the Dons. Isaac went 3 innings and gave up 3 runs, with 3 hits, 4 walks and 2 hit batters on his way to striking out 2 Falcons. He was relieved by Austin McManamon is the 4th. Austin pitched an inning and gave up 2 runs, 3 hits and a walk.

Austin left the game in the 5th inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Mason Zirkel was handed the rock and found a way to get out of the inning with minimal damage. Mason pitched 1 inning and gave up a hit and no runs in his 3rd appearance of the year.

Jack Giorgianni pitched the 6th and looked good retiring the heart of the College Park lineup in order. He set down the Falcons on 12 pitches, inducing 3 fly outs to outfielders.

Right fielder David Gonzales had the team’s only hits. Gonzo led the offense with 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.

Shortstop James Stadt had 2 walks, a run scored and a stolen base for the Dons.

Despite having 10 base runners, including 2 hit by pitches, the boys could not score at their regular pace on Thursday. After getting behind early they just couldn’t generate enough offense for another dramatic win.

The team is 3-1 in League and currently tied with Benicia and College Park for 1st place. The Dons take on the Benicia Panthers next week, with a home game on Tuesday at 4pm and an away game on Thursday at 4pm. Come out and see this 17-1 squad perform. You can’t beat fun at the old ballpark
