Oh man – it actually felt like a summer afternoon last Thursday as the Dons took on Clayton Valley Charter. It was a fantastic afternoon for swimming and honoring our seniors!
The Dons were definitely tired – since this week is hell week – the week where practice is longer and more strenuous a few weeks before a big meet to get the swimmers into a long taper before DAL. Despite everyone being tired, and not a lot of time improvements, the meet started on a high note with all four 200 Medley relay events being won by the Dons. For the first time, all four Varsity teams swam CONS times!
Mila Ellis continued her domination of 100 IM and 50 Fly, winning both events, as did Caroline Tumilty, winning the JV 50 free. Liv Hoppe was 2nd in the Varsity 50 free with Adelyn Horciza finishing 4th and Juliet McIlwain in 5th. The varsity boys finished 2nd through 7th in the 50 Free Varsity race – Alex Butler, Hans Ramirez (welcome back!), Mason Schlehr, Jace Carter, Will Dreyer and Anthony Yamamoto!
Will MIller won the 50 fly for the JV boys. Kendall Lee and Taryn Veronda went 1-2 in the Varsity girls 100 fly.
In the 100 Free, Sebastian Strittmatter and Gabi Solera Serrano both swim under a minute, finishing 2nd and 3rd in the JV Boys race. The Varsity girls went 2nd through 8th – Ella Del Rosario, Liv Hoppe, Kyra Weiss, Brooke Rardin, Adelyn Horciza, Nina Bundy and Ellie Budke! Parker Etnyre took first in the Boys Varsity race, with Mason Schlehr finishing 3rd with a huge 4.77 second pop!
Both JV teams on boys and girls sides went 1-2 in the 200 Free Relay, and both Varsity Boys relay teams went CONS for the first time this season!
Dane Schurhoff won the 100 JV Back, and Ethan Zolboo won the JV 100 Breast, with Jay Schoenhair in 2nd and Will Miller in 3rd.
The highlight of the night though, was the senior presentations – big congratulations to all of our amazing senior swimmers! For the boys we have Toby Brock-Utne, Alex Butler, Will Dreyer, Parker Etnyre, Tyler Gerhardt, Cale Hanson, Dylan Machado, Will Paulsen and Hans Ramirez, and for the girls we have Maya Bleich, Bella Bundy, Wendy Heffelfinger, Sophie Hendrickson, Liv Hoppe, Brooklyn Plomp, Taryn Veronda, Kyra Weiss!
