KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE THE LADY JV DONS LAX TEAM SEND MONTE VISTA BACK TO DANVILLE WITH AN “L”

The Girls Lacrosse JV Team defeated the mighty Monte Vista team on Tuesday evening 16-3. Although the score may not indicate it, the teams battled in this one. The Dons were behind 3-2 but after a time out and making a couple of lineup moves the Dons scored 9 more goals before half time to take control of this one. The team’s record is now 7 wins and 0 losses! Truly a wonderful run by an amazing group of young ladies.

Monte Vista was filled with really good club Lacrosse players (this comes from their Coach). However, the Dons are filled with really good players with incredible GRIT always working together as a team. That truly was the difference in the game. The Donets never quit hustling, never quit going after ground balls and never quit trying to keep all of their teammates involved to find the open women for the score.

With a score this one-sided there were many highlights, but I will just set out a few. First off the person with her best game for the Dons and truly turned it around when we were behind was Taylor Mikalis. She did not even score a goal, but she absolutely controlled the field at Middie all game long, pounced on every ground ball and had a couple of assists. Grace Eppinger, Maya Stafford, Christina Hageboeck and Kate Beaver continued to star and light up the scoreboard with 15 of our goals between them. Kate Uffleman, Ella Culbertson, Reiney Fish, Lucy Thomas, Cate Mercier all contributed on the field and on the stat sheet offensively.

The Defense was a bit shaky for the first 6 minutes of the game but after a few adjustments they shut down Monte Vista for the remaining 42 minutes. It was a wonderful site to see them working so well together. While the Offense has 111 goals in 7 games, the Defense has only given up 17 goals! An incredible statistic. Once again there were many highlights on Defense, but a few names need to be mentioned for having extraordinary games: Addie McShane and Edie Berzansky (who both also played great at Middie), Julia Lyons, Reese Westphal, Maddie Obertello and Zoe Braunstein. The Goalies Sarah Hession and Addison Mandell stopped almost everything that came their way.

It was so much fun to watch all of our players but especially good to see the first-year players mix it up against a very experienced team. First year players Ruby Bogan (new defensive stud), Stella Pacheco, Grace Hayes, Yali Avrahami, Molly Jones, Stella Degroot, Svea Staino (First year middie that shined), Taryn Stevenson, Kinneri Vivek and Wila Wilcot all had an opportunity to compete in this game and all played well in their limited time in the game.

It was a hard fought game for the first quarter but then the game quickly became another route of a very good opponent. The Running Dons hope to continue their streak this Friday at 5:30 against Campolindo. Come on out and root; you will enjoy the show I can assure you of that!

GOOOOOO DOOOONS!
