Girls Varsity Lacrosse Runs Into Talented California High Team, Lose 15-9

Despite their best efforts, the Dons fell short of a win at home on Friday night against a talented California High team. The game started out with Cal High taking the early lead. With the help of goals scored on penalty shots by Ella Thomason and Tea Smith along with a goal by Campbell Evans on an assist from Emily Roberts, the Dons were able to tie it up 3-3 early on. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get to the Grizzlies. After the first half, Cal High had stretched their lead to 8-4. The Dons continued to play hard and fight for the ball, with some good rallies mid game bringing them within striking distance. Late in the game, the Dons even employed a little sister power, with Reese Imrie scoring off a pass from sister Grace Imrie. However, it wasn’t enough to close the score gap and the Grizzlies went home with the win at 15-9.

Scoring was led by Sophomore Campbell Evans with a hat trick at 3 goals. Ella Thomason, Tea Smith, Grace Imrie, Emily Roberts, Reese Imrie and Grace Colaco all scored 1 goal a piece. Grace Imrie contributed 2 assists, while Emily Roberts and Cat Liu each had 1. Working hard to control the draw against a tough opponent, Grace Imrie had 4 draw controls, Ella Thomason 2, Grace Colaco and Reese Imrie each 1.

The Dons’ defensive line of Avery Ives, Kelly Todhunter, Reese Tierney and Claire Zimmerman showed a lot of strength in their ability to protect our goal against a very quick and effective Grizzly offense. Leading our defense once again was goalie Addie Martin with 8 phenomenal saves against some incredibly tough shots. Key in helping the dons regain possession numerous times with 3 loose balls controlled was Avery Ives.

Come support the Dons as they take on San Marin on Tuesday at 7pm at home. Let’s go Dons!
