JV Girls Soccer ties knot around Windsor 3-0

The Windsor knot is a knot used to tie a necktie that is triangular like other common necktie knots, but wider and more balanced.   The knot is named after the Duke of Windsor, who is sometimes credited with its invention alongside his London shirtmaker.  Oh wait, this article is supposed to be about soccer, “knot” neckties (pun intended).

The Girls JV soccer team hit the road on Saturday and defeated the Windsor Jaguars 3-0.  Surprisingly, the Jaguars had only played 2 games all season according to MaxPreps.  The good news about playing a team that has only played 2 games is that you can set all sorts of season records.  The Jaguars gave up the most goals they had allowed all season (3), scored the fewest (0), allowed the most shots (too many to count), attempted the fewest shots (0), and had the most aerial vehicles fly overhead (at least 5 planes and 1 helicopter).

The Dons defense continued to dominate, pitching yet another shutout.  In fact, in the last 6 games, the Dons have given up a total of 2 goals.  Ella Culbertson set the tone early with several steals and clears downfield.  Cassidy Smith, Michaela Barbano, and the rest of the defense also pitched in.  Goalies Cate Mercier and Sophie Gold enjoyed a pretty stress-free day.  Towards the end of the game, the girls moved around with many of the players switching from offense to defense and vice versa.

Ella Culbertson (#3) plays shut down defense

The Dons had many scoring opportunities on offense and managed to score three times.  The first goal was on a pass from Maddie Bernstein to Caroline Tumilty who kicked a rocket over the goalie and into the net.  The second goal was on a beautiful swerving corner kick from Dani Green (aka an Olympic goal, her second of the season).  The last goal came courtesy of Grace Eppinger who scored on a breakaway.  Evelyn Lee also had some great plays on the day, but unfortunately wasn’t able to convert any of her shots into goals.

I have several shouts-outs today.  The first goes to the Jaguars goalie who withstood a barrage of shots and worked hard to fire up her teammates.  The second goes to Alice Tumility who brought an extra white jersey for a player in need.  The final shout-out goes to all the parents who drove the 150 miles roundtrip to attend the game!

“Get to Know Coach”: Coach Alex’s favorite singer is Bad Bunny.  In all honesty, I had no idea who that was, but apparently he is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer who is dating Kendall Jenner.
