Girls Varsity Soccer Drops Close One to Clayton Valley 1-0

The Girls Varsity Soccer team got off to a strong start against the Clayton Valley Ugly Eagles on Tuesday night. After dominating for the first 15 minutes of the game, a foul was called on the Eagles. Tatum Keely took a great shot, but was too far away to get any traction towards the goal. The Eagles started pushing harder and playing scrappy and were able to pull out a run towards our goal, but Demi Woods wasn’t having it. She stepped across and blocked the shot. The Dons continued to dominate with a beautiful give and go towards the goal by Ella Thomason and Taylor Mikalis with 16 minutes left in the half, but a defender ran it down and kicked it out at the last minute. Leila Hamidi defended our goal again with a body kick to turn the ball back in the right direction. Lucca DeBiasse made a run and took a shot that went wide. We played a bit of ping pong with the Eagles for the last 10 minutes of the half, though the Dons controlled most of the momentum. With just seconds to play in the first half, the Eagles took a corner kick that went low, right through the goal box and an unmarked Eagles player was able to tap it in taking the lead over the Dons 1-0 at halftime.

The Dons had a great start to the second half with a strong breakaway and run towards goal by Stella Hamilton with a long shot that was caught by a defender. Melisa Adatepe had a great save on a corner kick by the Ugly Eagles ten minutes in. Sisi Houston had a great shot, but it fell a little short. There was a beautiful long ball by Avery DeMent to senior Megan Yee for a nice run toward goal, but yet another Eagle defender swooped in. Adatepe had another great save with 15 minutes left in the game. Nicole Nguyen took a strong shot with 2:05 left, but it went high. The game ended 1-0 in favor of the Ugly Eagles.
