FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL DONS TAKE DOWN RODRIGUEZ MUSTANGS WITH 68-35 WIN

The freshman Dons win their second game in a row outscoring the Rodriguez Mustangs 68-35.

Before we get started we’d like to welcome Finn Rivera to the team after traveling with Varsity Football to Southern California where they won the Division 3AA State Championship against Birmingham. Congrats again Varsity Dons!! Finn contributed 11 points in his debut basketball game, great to have him on the team!

The first quarter got off to a slow start. Ball movement was good but shots weren’t dropping. Mid way through the quarter, three pointers by Oliver MacLeod and Ben Mickelson as well as a great assist from MacLeod to Mickelson for two points got the team going. Connor Eun continued the action with a steal and score, and the quarter ended 18-9 Dons.

In the second quarter the Dons had trouble with the Mustangs press, but Connor Eun and Nolan Potts got to the basket multiple times sparking Acalanes, leading the Dons to a 19-8 quarter and finishing the half 37-17.

The second half began with turnovers and slow play but quickly got into gear with a few buckets at the rim by Finn Rivera and a flurry of assists to multiple players by Connor Eun. It was exciting to watch! The third quarter ended 53-30.

The Dons won the fourth quarter 15-5. Paul Bacon had a great quarter pulling down rebounds, playing great defense and scoring multiple times.
