It’s not Powder Puff…This is Lady Dons Flag Football

The California Interscholastic Federation, the statewide body that governs high school athletics, voted in early 2023 to sanction high school girl’s flag football. Much to the excitement of players and families statewide, flag football will kick off in fall 2023 and Acalanes will have a girl’s flag football team this fall lead by Head Coach Victor Silva and assisted by Tom Shoenhair.  Both coaches are experienced Acalanes coaches on the softball diamond and now on the football turf.

Acalanes Sports Boosters couldn’t be more thrilled about the decision: Developing leadership skills, learning how to work together as a team and representing our Dons community.  Schools across the state are figuring out scheduling and logistics for the seven-on-seven-player games, with play underway as early as August or September.

California is now among a handful of other states that have flag football as part of their high school athletics programs.  It’s an era when the athletes are breaking through barriers, taking off running, and proving their strength in this sport.

Get ready for the Lady Dons coming with eye black on, headband, cleats and gloves, and ready to get down and to play some football.
