Varsity Dons Baseball Lose 4-3 to Benicia

The boys headed to Benicia High School to take on the Panthers on Tuesday. Henry Souza got the start
and pitched a complete game for the Dons. He gave up 4 runs (3 earned) and 5 hits with 3 walks and 5
strikeouts in a tight 4-3 road loss.

Trailing 1-0 in the 3rd inning, Keegan Goddard got a rally started for Acalanes with a walk. Keegan was
able to coax 3 walks for the day, to go with his 2 stolen bases. Andrew Habas followed Goddard’s at bat
with another walk. Keegan was able to steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch during
Andrew’s at bat. That brought up Gavin Bender who hit a laser to centerfield for a sacrifice fly to score
Goddard and tie the game at 1-1. Next up was Nico O’Rourke. On a 2-0 count Habas was able to steal
third before Nico hit a drive to center to score Andrew on another sacrifice fly. Dons up 2-1 heading to the bottom of the 3rd inning.

The Panthers tied it up in the bottom of the 4th before the Dons came to bat in the 5th . Bender led off
with a single, followed by a blast to right center field by Nico O’Rourke for a double that scored Gavin
for a 3-2 lead. Sammy Lee walked but a couple of outs on the bases ended the inning.

Souza put up a zero in the bottom of the 5th before allowing two runs in the 6th to give
Benicia a 4-3 lead heading into the 7th .

In the final inning effort, Gavin Bender led off with a walk and stole second and third in the inning. Sammy Lee was also walked for the third time and made it to second on defensive indifference. Unfortunately the Dons could not get the big hit that was needed and fell to the Panthers 4-3. We are now 7-9 on the season.

We play Benicia again on Thursday in Lafayette at 4pm. Come on out, good things are about to happen.

Go Dons!
