Varsity Baseball falls to Clayton Valley Charter

It started as a beautiful day for baseball on Tuesday in Lafayette. The Varsity Dons, on a two game win streak took on the #3 ranked North Coast Section team in Division 1, the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles. As usual the boys found themselves in another pitcher’s duel.

Henry Souza started for Acalanes and pitched admirably for the first 5 and 2/3 innings. Dons defense staying right with their pitcher. Clayton Valley had a narrow 1-0 lead heading into the 6th inning. Unfortunately, after starting the inning with two ground outs, the highly rated Ugly Eagles exploded for 6 runs in the 6th to blow the game wide open. Logan Mikalis had come in to relieve Souza with two outs in the 6th.

Tyson Bates pitched the 7th inning to finish the game. The boys battled to the end, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Clayton Valley won 8-0.

Defensively the Dons recorded their third straight errorless game. Gavin Bender made some great plays
at third base and Mason Michlitsch flashed some leather at first to keep the scoring down early.

Offensively the boys just had too many outs on the bases to sustain a rally. Sammy Lee led the team
with two hits (a single and a double), Mason Zirkel doubled, Benji O’Rourke singled, Keegan Goddard
singled, and Mason Michlitsch was hit by a pitch, twice.

The Dons need to shake this off and be ready for the rematch on Thursday at Clayton Valley, where the
playoff push continues. May 2nd the boys in blue head to Campo before playing them at HOME on Thursday, May 4th Join us! Let’s pack the park!
