Varsity baseball honors it’s Saturday home game traditions

Game ready

Heading down the home stretch of their non-league contests, the Dons have had a couple of back-to-back tough games.  Berkeley High School Yellow Jackets arrived in Dons territory with some hot bats and a commanding full-game pitcher this past Saturday and most of the game went their way. Berkeley racked up 13 hits to our 4 on route to a 7-1 victory. They scored  4 quick runs and never looked back.

We threw 4 pitchers against them Henry Souza, Peter Thorn, Logan Mikalis, and Sully Bailey with Thorn handling the majority of the game, innings 2-5. Souza, Thorn, and Bailey each delivered two strikeouts, Bailey while only facing 3 batters in the 7th inning.

Andrew Habas led the Dons offense with 2 hits and Mason Michlitsch and Everett Glass each added singles.

Both the infield corners,  Gavin Bender at 3rd base and Mason Michlitsch at 1st base had amazing catches of foul balls at their sideline fences.  Catcher Sammy Lee had a brave blocking tag out at home plate to stop a run.

Maybe we needed to pull out some of the nerf darts being utilized in the Senior Assassin games this past week to help tame the Yellow Jackets?

Next up is Thursday 3/30 vs Antioch and 3/31 vs Las Lomas. Go get ‘Em Dons!

The traditions continue:

Every home game we have a Lafayette Little league player throw out the first pitch and join the team for the national anthem.

Saturday home game double headers we BBQ for both school teams & fans. Varsity played at 11 and JV played at 2 pm and after each game our amazing, supportive Dons parents hosted a full spread bbq of cheeseburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks, and desserts.

Major league Dads volunteering to BBQ THANK YOU!

Always tougher to socialize after a loss but just a great effort from our Acalanes Athletics community.  Fortunately, JV grabbed a 10-8 victory.
