Acalanes Dons JV Baseball Donning Blue Uniforms lose Battle of the Dons 8-1 vs Amador Valley Dons

These are not the Dons you’re looking for

I am starting to realize that writing for JV baseball is way harder than writing for Frosh baseball.  Why?  Not only do I have to get to the field by 3:30 two weekdays per week, but I also have to write twice as many articles since there are no double headers.   All of this is my way of saying that if I start making up what happens the first few innings because I can’t get off work in time, or I run out of story ideas and start writing about things like when I last did laundry (which was Monday by the way), please forgive me.

Jake Colaco got the start on the mound.  He had not played in a game since last summer due to a football injury.  Despite the long layoff, he proceeded to mow down the first 11 hitters he faced with 6 Ks.  Unfortunately the 12th out proved elusive as he ended up giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk in 3 and 2/3 innings.  Hank Bauer entered the game in relief.  He gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks in 1/3 innings and exited the game after getting beaned in the back on an errant throw.  Brendan Miles pitched the last 2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 1 hit, 2 walks, and 1 HBP.  The defense improved significantly from the last game, recording only 2 errors on the same play in the bottom of the 6th inning when the game was already out of reach.

Starting pitcher Jake Colaco makes his season debut

The Acalanes offense continued to struggle, managing only one run on 2 hits and 2 walks.  David Gonzales and Wyatt Cooper collected the hits on the day, and the run came in the 3rd inning, where the team was able to capitalize on a couple errors from Amador Valley and great baserunning from David.

Brady Quinn made solid contact all game

“Get to know the Coaches”: Both coaches proved that they are not bandwagon baseball fans as their favorite MLB team is the Oakland A’s, the team that finished last season a whopping 46 games behind the eventual World Series Champion Houston Astros, and whose entire team payroll this year is slightly lower than what the NY Mets are paying ex-Astro Justin Verlander.

P.S. Shout out to the Miles family for hosting the Pasta Feed Wednesday night, and all the parents who helped provide the food that the team devoured!

The Dons you are looking for play their next game today (Friday, March 3) at 3:30 pm at Monte Vista
