Boys Varsity Tennis Team Completes Season Sweep of College Park; Dons 8, Falcons 1

After starting the season with three straight away matches, the Acalanes boys’ varsity tennis team finally got to play a match on our home courts.  For the second time this week, we took on College Park.  The results were the same; we defeated the Cougars 8-1.  Two of our players got to compete in their first league matches and both got a win.  #6 Spencer Tantameng gave up only three games winning 6-3, 6-0, and Andrew Zheng teamed up with Quincy Patterson in the #3 doubles slot and they won 6-0, 6-1.  College Park’s best two players went toe-to-toe with #1 Nick Owens and #2 Tucker Brewer.  Owens put up a good fight but went down 6-3, 6-2.  Brewer was pushed in the first set, and then he found his stride and cruised through the second set to win 7-5, 6-1.  All the other matches resulted in straight set victories, including senior James Cortez who saw his first singles action of the season.

In other league play on Thursday, Northgate stunned Miramonte 5-4.  Because the Miramonte-Campolindo match on Tuesday was rained out, Campolindo is now the only undefeated team in league play.  The Dons are currently 3-1, but our toughest match ups are coming after the players enjoy their spring break next week.  Ironically enough, there is no rain in the forecast next week.  Oh well!  We have three injured players that will hopefully rejoin the lineup after the break: Tyler Toni, Saaj Shah and Riley Bonner.

Again, thanks to our loyal supporters who were again out in force cheering on the matches.  Players – enjoy your time off.  Go Dons.  Coach Rick
