Frosh Girls Soccer Dominates Campo

Coming off the winter break, our women’s soccer Froshbite Dons hosted the Campolindo Cougars for their first match in the New Year on Thursday, the 5th of January. Luckily, there was a break in the rain and both teams came out excited to face each other.

Early on it was obvious that there was some rust to work off after the break, however our Dons began to take control of the game. Great teamwork and impassioned effort gave our Dons their largest win of the season with a 6-0 shutout victory.

#8 Nina Bundy broke through for the Dons first with the first goal of the game about halfway through the first half, and soon after #10 Kate Uffelman added the second goal by calmly tapping the ball past the charging Campo goalkeeper. Right before the whistle to end the first half, our goalkeeper #14 Maya Shoenhair made a fantastic save to send the team into the locker room with momentum.

The Dons came out fired up in the second half led by our midfielders #3 Stella Pacheco, #9 Sadie Hendrickson, #19 Brooke Rardin, #11 Julia Munter, #7 Kate Avnaim, #18 Julia Lyons and #13 Maddie Bernstein who started to dominate the game putting a lot of pressure on the Cougars. Eventually the scoring started to explode for the Dons, in particular #17 Aliyah Vazquez-Fireman who scored 3 goals for her first hat trick of the season while #22 Charlotte Gellman also had some great shots on goal.  Bundy then scored her second goal to wrap up the scoring barrage for the Dons.

Whenever Campo was able to get some forward momentum, they were easily shut down by our strong defense of #20 Helena McGinley, #21 Natalie Hamill, #15 Cassidy Smith, #5 Lauren Anderson, #19 Molly Alrich, and #23 Sara Tarnai who along with Shoenhair in goal, giving the team their 4th shutout of the year.

Come support the Dons at home Saturday, January 7th at 2pm vs Piedmont!
