Varsity Girls Wrestling Travel to Pittsburg’s Queen of the Mat tournament

Anya Hass Hollenbeck, Dakota Goyert, and Joy Baker

The first varsity girls’ tournament of the season was expected to be a tough one.  This tournament had over 30 teams compete for the Title, “Queen of the Mat” and all three of our girls showed up to wrestle.  It was an 11-hour tournament full of exciting matches.  Dakota Goyert weighed in at 101 lbs. and dominated all her opponents, winning every match by pin.  She took 1st place and was voted MVP of the tournament.  Anya Hass Hollenbeck our 116-pounder took 4th and pinned two girls in the 1st round.  Senior Joy Baker wrestled in the 111 bracket even though she weigh in at 103 lbs. and had plenty of tough opponents.  She was able to take 4th  by finishing with a pin in the 2nd round.  All three wrestled their hearts out and had a great day.    We look forward to seeing everyone wrestle again this Friday at Campo and Saturday at the Varsity Amador Valley tournament.  Amador Valley is the 1st boys’ Varsity tournament of the season.
