Dons JV Football Team Delivers Dose of Harsh Reality to Las Lomas Knights in 35-0 Victory

The Dons Bachelors and Bachelorette salute the flag

The first reality TV show, “America’s Candid Camera”, aired in 1948.  Reality TV emerged as a distinct genre in the early 1990s with MTV’s “The Real World” followed by shows such as “Survivor”, “American Idol”, and the “Bachelor”.  In football, there is HBO’s “Hard Knocks” which follows NFL teams through training camp, and of course “Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making the Team” which follows, well you can probably figure that out. So why the reality TV references?  Las Lomas means “The Hills” in Spanish, and as I am sure most of you know, “The Hills” is a reality show about young adults living in LA that had a predecessor show called “Laguna Beach” and two spin-offs.  Yes, a weak connection for sure, but not much weaker than any of my other themed write-ups.

The Dons’ defense smothered the Knight’s offense the entire game, giving up 34 total yards and zero points.  The Defense also recorded two turnovers, with David Roux getting a 25-yard pick 6 to get the Dons on the board, and Jonah Riviera recovering a fumble later in the game.  The Dons had 17 different players register tackles. LB Jake Hawkins led the team with 4 tackles, followed by DL Eli Laird and LB Brady Wall with 3 tackles each. Brady also nearly recorded a sack where he got to the QB so fast it looked like he was shot out of a cannon, and Jake Yoshinaka had a full somersault tackle.  The Knight’s offense only made it to the Dons’ side of the field twice, both times due to penalties.

Danny Goldwyn (#33), Brody Greenfield (#45), and the rest of the Acalanes defense deliver some Hard Knocks

The Dons offense registered 237 passing yards, 36 rushing yards, and 4 TDs, all of which were scored in the second quarter.  The TDs included a 58-yard pass from QB Jake Colaco to Niko White, a 2-yard pass from Jake to JB Frolich, a toss to tailback David Gonzales who threw a 57-yard pass to Tyler Kim, and a 24-yard pass from Jake to JB where he leaped over the defender.  David did his best “Where’s Waldo?” impersonation in the game, spending time at running back, wide receiver, cornerback, and safety.  Eitan Romick had 5 carries for 35 yards before leaving the game with an injury.  Avyn Morales got his first catch and rushing attempts of the season.

The Dons Offensive Line Tribe has spoken…we will protect Jake (#10)

On special teams, Lucca DeBiasse returned from injury and maintained her extra point perfection, registering 5 on the day and 11 on the season.  David Roux had several long punts and also took over kickoff duties from Eitan Romick following his injury.  WR and kick returner Alek Adolphson also excelled before suffering an injury late in the game.

Acalanes Idol, Athletic Trainer Chris Clark, had a busy day

The Dons hope to heal before hitting the road to face rival Campolindo on Friday, October 14 at 4:30 pm.
