Boys Tennis NCS Team Tournament Begins, Acalanes Scores First Round Victory over Oakland’s College Prep, 5-2

Ready, Set, Match!

The Don’s played like the Division 2 #6 seed on Tuesday defeating #11 College Prep 5-2.  It was cool and windy conditions with even some light rain sprinkles, but the match went on and the boys looked sharp.  As the scores below indicate, we had some tightly contested battles and some lopsided scores.  Tucker Brewer and doubles partners Kaya Hoeberechts and Riley Bonner only lost two games collectively.  All three played very well and closed out their matches quickly.  Nick Owens played a solid contender in the #2 spot and made it look easy only giving up four games.  The tightest win went to Tyler Toni who had a real dogfight with College Prep’s #1 player Sean Alster.  Deep in both sets, Tyler had the answers and won the critical points with clutch play and eventually got the victory.

Though we lost two lines, they were not without valiant efforts and both matches could have gone either way.  Zach Snyder dictated in his match with serves and groundstrokes that were penetrating and on target, however, his opponent found a way to keep getting the ball back into play and eventually squeaked out the win.  Doubles partners Liam McGlynn and Tyler Holder had some great moments and played a dominant second set.  Theirs was the only match that went the three-set distance, but they just couldn’t get that third set.

The boys are off to the College of Marin on Thursday to play the quarterfinals match against #3 seed and host Branson.  The Branson Bulls are undefeated in the MCAL (Marin County Athletic League) and won their first-round match against #14 San Domenico 7-0.  They will be a huge test for the Dons, but we intend to bring our A-game.

As usual, we were well supported by family and friends.  Thanks for always being courtside to cheer on the boys.  If you want to track the Division 2 tournament, click on the link. CIF-North Coast Section (cifncs.org)
