Acalanes Boys Varsity Tennis Team Defeats Las Lomas 9-0

The boys’ varsity tennis team won all nine lines on Tuesday vs. Las Lomas.  In league play, the Dons improved to 5-3 with only two matches left to play.  There were several firsts on Tuesday that need to be highlighted.

#1 Nick Owens took revenge on Trevor Fong who beat him 10-5 in the deciding super tiebreaker back on March 17.  This time, it was Nick who won the third set super tiebreaker 10-7.  Nick served very well, and his groundstrokes were on fire.  He hit several clean winners from both wings and was simply the better player Tuesday.  This was Nick’s first win in league play.

#2 Luke Brightbill also beat his opponent in a third set super tiebreaker 10-7.  Luke had a rough start but then righted the ship and won in a real war of attrition.  This was also Luke’s first win in league play.
Tyler Holder, who normally plays doubles, played #5 singles and won his first and only singles match in a third set super tiebreaker 10-3.  His normal partner Liam McGlynn played in the #3 doubles spot with Spencer Tantameng.  They won making this Spencer’s first league match and win.  The remaining five matches were won in straight sets.

The boys are peaking at the right time.  Their best will be needed as the last two matches are against Campolindo and then Miramonte – both are at home.  The Campolindo match was moved forward to April 20 as rain is in Thursday’s forecast.  #1 Tyler Toni returns to the lineup and the Dons have a score to settle.  The Miramonte match is April 26.  We then move into post-season play which is the DAL tournament and then NCS.

As always, thank you to the family members who drove out to Las Lomas to cheer on the team.  Note that at the home match on April 26, the team will be recognizing our seniors who will be playing in their last league match.  We have three: Tyler Holder, Liam McGlynn and Matthew Muren. We’re hoping you can attend to congratulate them. Go Dons!
