Girls varsity lacrosse finished last week with an away game at Ygnacio Valley – – Turns out they gave goalie Addie Martin the night off, as she only was forced to make 2 saves and allowed just one goal. The defense, of course, is the silent champion behind numbers like that, but this game was about offense, and the Dons took full advantage: #33 Brooke Palma played some scrappy lacrosse racking up 5 ground ball possessions and scoring 4 goals! #45 Michelle Goll dominated the draws, winning 10 of those, and also chalked up 2 goals of her own! The scoring was widespread with a total of 7 Dons adding including #1 Grace Hagel, #16 Lucy Gellman, #22 Kelsey Severson, #25 Jojo Bishop and #31 Samantha Louie, each adding 1 goal. #10 Hanna Hageboek earned a nice assist, and after 50 minutes and 31 shots, the Dons closed the game out 11-1. The girls headed into the weekend with a winning record of 4-3!
Monday night brought the team to Oakland for a non-league game against Bishop O’Dowd. It was an even game to begin, with neither team scoring for the first 6 minutes of play (0-0). #15 Megan Churchill broke the seal in the 7th minute, only to be answered by the Dragons within the same minute (1-1). Despite the slow start on the scoreboard, #65 Addie Martin would not have this night off – – before long a few very athletic and fast Dragons went on the offensive and the girls found themselves down 1-6 at halftime. #24 Grace Imrie put 2 in the back of the net for the second half, and #18 Maya Wang gave an assist, bringing us to a total of 3 goals to Bishop O’Dowd’s 10.
11 great saves for goalie Addie Martin, but there was a lot of good defensive work, too: Shout out to those who often go unrecognized back there: #3 Elise Flagg, #4 Ella Morris, #5 Ellie Ives, #9 Avery Ives and #14 Cate Condy. Some good ground ball work and more than a couple great clears!!
The team now sits even with 4 wins and 4 losses, but they’re 4-1 in league play. Last night they feasted, and Friday they get feisty in another league game against Clayton Valley Charter.
