JV Baseball: Giorgianni Dominates Liberty, Miklas Shuts the Door, 1-0

The JV Baseball team took on the Liberty Lions on Wednesday afternoon.  Jack Giorgianni got the start and pitched 5 scoreless innings, setting the tone for a 1-0 win for the Dons.  This was a true pitching duel to the very end.  Giorgianni struck out 6 and was supported by some stout defense throughout the game.  In the 2nd inning, with a runner on 1st, Jack induced a ground ball to shortstop James Stadt who flipped the ball to second baseman Mason Zirkel for one, before Mason fired a strike to Sully Bailey to complete the double play.  The same boys nearly turned two double plays after that.  Good pitching and solid defense were on display all day.

At the plate, the Don’s were only able to scratch out four hits against strong Liberty pitching.  Jake Boselli led the squad with two doubles.  After two walks in the 4th inning, the boys executed a textbook double steal to score the game’s only run, when Stadt crossed the plate from third.

In the 6th, Logan Mikalis took the mound and recorded 3 strikeouts in two innings to finish the game.  His final strike came with two on and two outs in the bottom of the 7th.  Everett Glass played a very clean 3rd base and center fielder Keegan Goddard tracked down balls all afternoon.  The JV Dons stayed undefeated with a close 1-0 victory over the Lions.  They take on a tough Foothill squad this afternoon, at home, at 3:30pm.  Go Dons!
