Varsity Baseball Shuts Out Albany to Increase their Winning Streak to FOUR

We knew it was only a matter of time until this team started to play to their potential and seems like they are finally hitting their groove.  The Dons took on Albany High at home on Thursday on another warm day and beautiful day.

It started off as a pitcher’s dual with Sam Heyman (sr) and the Albany pitcher both throwing blanks for the first 3 innings.  That all changed in the 4th Kyle White (jr.) led matters off with a single and advanced to second on a single by Davis Diaz (sr).  Fresh off the mound, Sam Heyman jumped on the first pitched he saw and crushed it over the left field wall for his 3rd home run in 2 days.  The Dons weren’t done though.  After singles by Luke Souza (jr) and Will Berrien (jr), and a walk to Jack Cusumano (jr), Ben Burleigh (sr) ripped a double to right, scoring two.  The Dons added another run in the inning to bring the score to 6-0.

Connor McPhail pitching 3 scoreless innings

Connor McPhail (jr) came in to relieve Heyman and continued to keep Albany off the scoreboard.  The Dons added 3 more insurance runs in the 6th with singles by McPhail and Brady Huchingson (sr) and a double by Kyle White (jr).  Those runs weren’t necessary though as McPhail shut down Albany, and the Dons went home with a 9-0 win.

It was a true team effort, with everyone in the lineup getting on base while racking up 10 hits.  On the other side of the diamond, Heyman and McPhail combined for a 4-hit shutout.  Next up for the streaking Dons is St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School on Saturday at 11am.  Come out to see this team who has finally found their groove.
