Williams caps off Senior Season with 4th Place Finish at NCS Wrestling Championships

Williams is slated to be substitute this weekend at States in his 152 weight class. He’s currently training with Campolindo in preparation.

Acalanes 152lbs wrestler Steven Williams capped off his senior season with a 4th place finish in the North Coast Section Wrestling Championships, held February 21-22 at James Logan High School. The Acalanes Team Captain finished Day1 of North Coast with three wins and one loss. He had pins over Will Weigel from Livermore High School, Rayhan Jaleel of Vallejo High and Dante Benedetti of Freedom High.

Steven advanced to the Consolation Championship Match Day 2 with a major decision win (11-3) over Gabe McGinnis of Willits High and a pin over 5th seed Mario Cuellar of Lower Lake High School. That match came after Steven suffered an allergy attack and was rushed by ambulance to Washington Hospital in Fremont. Steven recovered quickly and the tournament director delayed Steven’s next match. Steven responded by winning the Lower Lake match and then beating the 4th seed Levi Nyberg of Fortuna 9-4, making the Consolation Championship.

Steven lost the third place match to Ryan Matheson of Granada, missing qualifying for the CIF State Championship by one place.

Williams has advanced to NCS Wrestling Championships and Team Dual Championships  five times

Steven is  4-time All Diablo Athletic League, 2019 DAL Champion at 160lbs and advanced to the NCS Wrestling Championships and Team Dual Championships  five times. He won more than 100 matches in his Lamorinda high school career, wrestling for Campolindo and Acalanes. His 2019-20 season record is 34-13.
