AHS Swim Team Starts Off Strong vs College Park in Season Opener!

It was a cool afternoon at Heaston Aquatic Center – and then got downright cold once the sun went down! Let’s just say that swim team is VERY MUCH looking forward to the time change this weekend!  An extra hour of sun will make all the difference to our swimmers!

The meet started off with Acalanes winning three of the four Medley Relays. The Women’s Varsity A team of frosh Malin Stone, sophomore Anna Motes, sophomore Tess Veronda and junior Ella Del Rosario swam an NCS AUTOMATIC time of 1:55.03! The B team of frosh Lucy McShane, junior Audrey Martin, senior Ellie Budke and sophomore Adelyn Horciza went NCS Consideration in 2:03.20. On the boys’ side, the A team of junior Mason Schlehr, sophomore Jayden Hwang, and seniors Tony Yamamoto and Jace Carter went NCS Consideration with 1:49.34!

Frosh Ella Schlehr won the JV 200 Women’s Free in 2:23.87!  Frosh Emi Kuniyoshi popped nearly 3 seconds to take second.  Sophomore Graham Maroney had a strong showing in the boys JV race, going 2.19.21. Ella Del Rosario won the women’s varsity race in an NCS Consideration time of 2:04.81! Sophomore Sophia Schwartz finished second, and junior Olivia Whipple, sophomore Avery Tanimura and senior Kate Roberts finished out the top five! Sophomore Braden Dunton won the boys varsity race in 1:57.36! 

Anna Motes won the 200 IM in an NCS Consideration time 2:18.65 with Malin Stone close behind with her own NCS Cons time of 2:20.81! Frosh Lily Briones and Audrey Martin took 3rd and 4th. Mason Schlehr won the men’s race in 2:14.37 with frosh Owen Andre coming in 3rd. 

In the 50 Free, frosh Indy Perry won the JV women’s race in 30.65. Frosh Lily Teicher was 4th and sophomore Audrey Tugade was 5th. Frosh Lachlan Tidd won the men’s race in 26.42 with junior Henry Dreyer and frosh Jonathan Judson in 2nd and 3rd. Acalanes took nine of the top 10 spots in the women’s Varsity race, with Lucy McShane, frosh Audrey Tseng, Adelyn Horciza, junior Siena La Rotonda, junior Nina Bundy, Ellie Budke and juniors Sadie Hendrickson Addie Dankworth and Sara Williams finishing 2nd through 10th place! In the boys race, Jace Carter and frosh Max Musch finished 3rd and 4th, while Tony Yamamoto finished 6th. 

Frosh Charlie Holmes was 2nd in the JV 50 Butterfly race. Sopnomore Evya Smyth had a 12 second pop in her 100 Fly Varsity race, finishing 2nd, with junior Jess Gerhardt close behind in 3rd. Braden Dunton won the Varsity boys race (as featured on the Boosters Instagram story yesterday) in 1:00.26. Sophomore Will Miller was 3rd. 

Acalanes went 1-2 in the JV women’s 100 Freestyle with frosh Emi Kuniyoshi and Kylie Kaplan finishing in those top spots! Graham Maroney and Charlie Holmes finished 5th and 7th in the boys race. Ella Del Rosario won the Varsity race with an NCS Consideration time of 57.24, with Sara Williams, senior Madison Bauer, Lucy McShane, Lily Briones, Sadie Hendrickson and Siena La Rotonda rounding out the top seven! Sophomore Andrew Tanimura, Max Musch and Tony Yamamoto finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the boys Varsity race. 

Olivia Whipple took second in the grueling 500 Freestyle, with sophomore Avery Tanimura and frosh Kelsey Gundersin finishing 3rd and 4th.  Andrew Tanimura won the boys race! 

The 200 Free Relay team of Ella Shlehr, Lily Teicher, Indi Perry and Erin Lerch won their race, as did the varsity women of Ella Del Rosario, Anna Motes, Adelyn Horciza and Lucy McShane (NCS Consideration time 1:48.36).  The B team of junior Addie Dankworth, sophomore Caroline Tumilty, and seniors Juliet McIlwain and Ellie Budke finished 2nd. The boys varsity team of Andrew Tanimura, Jace Carter, Tony Yamamoto and Max Musch also finished 2nd.  The B team of frosh Ryan Gerhardt, sophomore Wilson Daughters, frosh Peter Endemann and sophomore Thomas Butler-Kurimai finished 3rd. 

In the backstroke races, Lachlan Tidd won the JV Boys race, with frosh Jonathan Judson finishing 3rd. Malin Stone and Tess Veronda took the top two spots in the Varsity women’s race, both earning NCS Consideration times of 1:04.16 and 1:04.55 respectively!  Mason Schlehr won the men’s race in 1:01.06. 

Once again – 3 for 3 now – Ella Schlehr won the JV women’s breaststroke race! Kelsey Gunderson and Lily Teicher finished 2nd and 3rd. Frosh Colin Wilson and junior Henry Dreyer took 2nd and 3rd in the boys race. Anna Motes won the varsity race in another NCS Consideration time of 1:09.99, with Audrey Martin finishing 3rd.  Jayden Hwang was 2nd in the boys race, while frosh Gavin Barclay finished 4th.  

The final relay races – 400 freestyle –  were exciting as well!  Both JV teams won – Kylie Kaplan, frosh Lulu Lancour, Emi Kiniyoshi and yep, you guessed it – Ella Schlehr (who WON EVERY SINGLE RACE SHE ENTERED), and frosh Adrian Anderson, Charlie Holmes, Colin Wilson and Jonathan Judson. The two varsity girls teams took 2nd and 3rd, but both teams earned NCS Consideration times!  Malin Stone, Juliet McIlwain, Tess Veronda and Anna Motes went 4:05.14 while Jess Gerhardt, Sadie Hendrickson, Siena La Rotonda and Nina Bundy went 4:10.68!
