Welcome to 2025! I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing holiday. On Thursday night, the JV Girls Soccer team took the field after nearly a month since their last game to take on a tough 5-1-1 Clayton Valley Ugly Eagles team. Perhaps showing a bit of a sign of rust after the long break, the girls ended up falling by a final score of 5-1.
Despite the lopsided final score, there were some positives for the team to build upon. Grace Eppinger (#22) scored the only goal for the Dons on a tip-in following a cross from Julia Munter (#15). Caroline Tumilty (#8) and Madison Bernstein (#12) had several strong shots from distance. Tatum Walsh (#13) had a nice through pass to Grace Eppinger that almost lead to another goal. Helena McGinley (#4), Sierra Goyert (#10) and Molly Aldrich (#19) had a couple nice steals on the defensive end. Freshman goalie goalkeepeer Maria Statnikova (#0) did her best to keep the Ugly Eagles at bay following an off field injury to Cate Mercier.
My New Year’s resolution was to always focus on the positives. So in addition to the positives noted above, here were some other positives from last night’s contest. Traffic down Ygnacio Valley Road at rush hour was pleasant as always. The entrance cost to the game was a bargain, only $11. It was warm and dry with no wildfires in sight. The sunset was beautiful (picture below). One of our players had their arm pulled WWE style, but there was no retaliation. If we used the rules from the recent State Farm commercial that combined football and soccer, we actually would have won 7-5 as we had 2 shots sail over the field goal crossbar. Speaking of insurance, my home insurance hasn’t been cancelled due to wildfire risk which apparently is unusual in this area. And last but not least, the players thanked the parents for coming.
Get to Know Coach: Coach Jose’s favorite activity other than coaching is golfing with Varsity Head Coach Alex. Special shout out to Alex for subbing in for Coach Jose who was in Chicago attending a United Soccer Coaches Convention.
The team’s next game is at Cal High tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am
