Welcome to the 2024-25 JV Girls Soccer Season! Optimism abounds for this team as many of the players are returning from last year’s 12-7 team, and the JV girls program actually hasn’t had a losing season since 2017-2018. Against that backdrop, the team hosted the Windsor Jaguars on Wednesday in a rematch from last season that must have felt like deja-vu as the Dons ended up again with a 3-0 victory. Last year I added a reference to the Windsor knot in the post game write up, but promised myself that I would “knot” write as many puns this year.
The Dons excelled on both sides of the ball. On offense, the Dons got goals from Mila Ellis off a breakaway shot from Grace Eppinger that was deflected by the Windsor goalie, a goal off a booming kick from Caroline Tumility from distance, and a goal from Grace Eppinger on a beautiful corner kick play drawn up by Coach Luis. Midfielders including Grace Colaco and Evelyn Lee did a good job controlling the ball and pushing it up to the forwards. The defense, led by Ella Culbertson, Olivia Kemp, Sierra Goyert, Helena McGinley and others did a great job clearing the ball out of harm’s way for goalie Kate Mercier, who stopped everything that came her way preserving the shutout.
I asked Coach Jose about his goals for the season as part of my usual “Get to know Coach” section. He wants the team to become a Family. He wants the team to improve as a whole, as well as help each player reach their individual goals. He wants to have a winning record throughout our season. He sees a lot of potential for this awesome squad, and is very excited to see what’s in store for the season.
Lastly, as the Technology lead for Boosters, I would be remiss if I didn’t ask everyone to (1) sign up to receive the daily emails for Acalanes Sports (click here), (2) visit the Girls Soccer page on the Boosters website that has story recaps, rosters, and schedules (click here), (3) use TeamSnap for all the normal reasons and to share good game pictures, and (4) visit the Acalanes Stadium YouTube channel (click here) to watch the home game livestreams if you or other family members/friends are unable to attend in person. Lastly, it would also be great if someone to take high quality pictures of at least one home game and one away game. Go Dons!
The team’s next game is on Saturday, December 7th @ 1PM in Santa Rosa at Cardinal Newman High School
