Girls Flag Football Win Streak @ 6 after win vs. Benicia and Domination (and Victory) over Campolindo

Don’t look now, but the Girls Flag Football team is findings its groove and has a 3 week hot streak, winning 6 games in a row vs. DAL competition and has opened divisional league play 2-0.

Playing in an almost sold out arena with the Blue Crew cheering on and Don’s fan #1 in attendance, defense dominated the first game, with the Dons allowing Benicia only 121 yards of offense and providing all of the scoring for the game with interceptions returned for touchdowns by Ines Coyne and Maya Shoenhair.  But why stop there? Coyne added another interception later in the game and led the team with 8 tackles while Shoenhair led the team with 48 reception yards and also added 3 tackles.  Offense was tough on both sides of the ball, and the Dons ultimately prevailed 12-6.

The much anticipated game 2 vs. Campo was far more exciting and far more productive for the Dons.   Offense was plentiful and defense was tough, with the Dons winning 21-0, to bring the Dons record in flag football vs. the Cougars to 3-0 since inception of the new high school sport last year.

The Dons scoring got started with a 12 yard option pass from running back Lily Cervenka to Ines Coyne and, with 1.8 seconds left in the first half, a 25 yard pass from quarterback Hana Chelemedos to Coyne.  The final touchdown came on a 7-yard blast up the middle from freshman Isabelle Agnost.  Chelemedos connected on three extra point passes to Leslie Trowbridge and went 17-28 through the air for 159 yards.  Agnost led the Dons rushing attack with 63 yards on 8 carries and her first touchdown of the year.  Coyne had 3 receptions for 60 yards and Shoenhair had 5 receptions for 47 yards.

While the Dons offense was having one of its best nights of the season, the defense was busy smothering the Cougars, allowing them only 80 yards of offense and holding the Cougs quarterback to 4 for 16 passing for 23 yards and two interceptions, both by Cervenka.   Avery DeMent led the Dons with 8 tackles in game 2.

Next up for the Dons: Berean Christian & Clayton Valley Charter, October 9th, 1st game: 2:30pm
