Even though the league matches have finished, the tennis team has been busy this past week. The DAL head coaches named first team, second team and honorable mention players. The team had its season ending banquet where team awards were presented. Team representatives Will Lofting and Sammy Foster joined me and attended the Acalanes Athletics & Activities event where we met some of next year’s incoming freshmen tennis players. And then Tyler Toni traveled to James Logan High in Union City to compete in the NCS singles championships representing the DAL-Foothill league and, of course, Acalanes.

To all the players who won awards, congratulations!
Last but certainly not least, Coach Mike, mom Velia, and I were at the NCS singles/doubles championships to support Tyler Toni. Toni replaced Dibyam Dikhit as the automatic qualifier (AQ) representing the DAL-Foothill league. Toni was one of sixteen singles players and landed #3 seed honors. If you want to view the entire draw and current scores, click on the link below.
Toni cruised through the first round defeating Isaiah Valdivia of Richmond High 6-0, 6-0. He then ran into a stubborn and talented Elijah Cho of San Leandro High who played an incredible match edging Toni 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. For Acalanes, this concludes singles and doubles post-season play for 2023. We now move on to post-season team play. More to come on that early next week – our first round will be Tuesday, May 9, but the draw has not been set yet. Congratulations go out to Tyler Toni for earning his spot in the singles championships. He has been such a valuable member of our team all season. We are really going to miss him next year. Go Dons.
