The Dons were expecting a competitive match up with the Highlanders on Tuesday night, but after the first few minutes, the Dons seemed to have complete control of the game and didn’t look back.
On the offensive side of the ball, Grace Imrie scored 5, Haley Rurka put 4 in the back of the net, Megan Churchill added 3, Maya Wang tallied 2 and Lucy Gellman put 1 over the goal line as well. Defender Avery Ives had by far the most exciting assist of the night, bringing the ball up from the defensive end with speed before passing to Churchill for the score. Rurka had 3 assists of her own and Gellman also had one to add to her goal.
In addition to her scoring, Imrie dominated the draw circle as well with 6 draw controls. The Dons were active team-wide on controlling loose balls. The following players contributed to that effort: Wang, Imrie, Rurka, Churchill, Gellman, Ella Thomason, Kelly Todhunter and Gabriela Benveniste.
The Dons played excellent team defense, putting constant pressure on the Highlanders. Goalie Addie Martin had an impressive game with 6 saves on 10 shots!
Fingers crossed that the Dons find some fair weather in the midst of the impending atmospheric river on Friday at 7pm and keep up the momentum against the Campolindo Cougars. Go Dons!
