The John Rhodes Memorial JV Tournament opened Thursday in Lafayette with four games. In the nightcap San Rafael defeated Acalanes 62-50 in what was a competitive and fast-paced game.
Jaden McClane led the way for the Dons with 22 points and 12 rebounds, his second consecutive double-double, and Joe Reidenbach added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The game was full of back and forth action throughout the first half with Acalanes leading by 7 points after the first quarter, only to see San Rafael battle back to take their own 9 point lead midway through the second. The Don’s ended the half on an exciting 7-0 run, capped by Liam Krackeler’s three-pointer to tie the game 32-32 going into the half.
In the second half the Dons worked to ball into McClane for a number of short range buckets, but San Rafael was able to pull away in the final minutes as their defense shut down Acalanes and held them to just 6 points in the 4th quarter.
The Dons next game is 5pm Friday, starting the Rhodes Tournament consolation bracket.
