JV Hoops: Dons Fall Short Against San Rafael in Rhodes Tourney Opener

The John Rhodes Memorial JV Tournament opened Thursday in Lafayette with four games. In the nightcap San Rafael defeated Acalanes 62-50 in what was a competitive and fast-paced game.

Jaden McClane led the way for the Dons with 22 points and 12 rebounds, his second consecutive double-double, and Joe Reidenbach added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The game was full of back and forth action throughout the first half with Acalanes leading by 7 points after the first quarter, only to see San Rafael battle back to take their own 9 point lead midway through the second. The Don’s ended the half on an exciting 7-0 run, capped by Liam Krackeler’s three-pointer to tie the game 32-32 going into the half.

In the second half the Dons worked to ball into McClane for a number of short range buckets, but San Rafael was able to pull away in the final minutes as their defense shut down Acalanes and held them to just 6 points in the 4th quarter.

The Dons next game is 5pm Friday, starting the Rhodes Tournament consolation bracket.
