On Saturday the Freshman Lady Dons faced the Campolindo Cougars on their court. The Cougars jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, which included a couple of ‘tape’ serves that fell Campo’s way. Coach Roman called a strategic timeout to successfully freeze out the Campo server. Julia Mannering’s serving helped change the momentum of the set, and narrowed the score to within one point. It was a back and forth battle, as dominating kills from Chloe and Monica kept the game close. A short, but successful serving run by Jade Profilio gave the Dons their first lead, and multiple kills from the front and back row by Chloe Lockewood, Monica Dikova and Mika Bocobo, helped sustain that lead. Julia Mannerings five point serving run, combined with a couple of key heads up plays from Mika and Elise Fox, combined with spot on setting from Eva McGrath pulled the Dons even further into the lead. The Cougars started to gain some momentum, but it was too little too late, as the Dons closed the set 25-16.
In the second game, the Dons took the early lead thanks to powerful serving from Eva McGrath and Mika Bocobo. More powerful hitting from Monika Dikova added to the Dons point tally. With a gutsy pass from Jade Profile, Eva McGrath set Chloe Lockewood for an impressive kill that sent the Dons up 5-2. The Cougars fought back to even the score at 5-5, and the teams then exchanged the lead, point for point, for the next 16 points! The Dons responded to every Campo point with with more strong serving from Monica Dikova, Eva McGrath and Mika Bocobo. Campo was met at the net with strong blocking from Anna McCloud and Elise Fox, great ups from Mia Iams and Jade Profilio and even more definitive hits from Chloe Lockewood, Mika Bocobo and Monica Dikova. At 21-21, Chloe Lockewood aced a serve and the Don’s took control. Mika Bocobo, with a kill, off a killer set from Eva McGrath, brought the score to 24-22. The Don’s closed it out with an ace from Jade Profilio, ending the set with a final score 25-22.
