Girls Varsity Soccer Gets Back on Track with a ‘W’

It was a beautiful afternoon in Alameda on Saturday. While the weather was ideal, the field was not what the girls are used to playing on…grass, mud patches and very narrow. The Dons were up against a strong, undefeated Alameda High team.

In the first half, the team’s play was a bit slow due to unforced turnovers and trying to get used to the slower pace of play. Tatum Zuber made a terrific cross to Emily Keeler on the wing where Emily knocked the ball into the back of the net to give the Dons the lead 1-0. The score remained there until half.

Within minutes of the second half starting, again Freshman Tatum Zuber found fellow Freshman Addie Bailey with a beautiful through ball up the middle and Addie converted with authority to make the score 2-0.

Alameda’s goalie made some tremendous saves as the Dons were putting high pressure on their defense. Junior Aliye Wingate was able to get herself open to pound the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out to give the Dons a comfortable lead at 3-0.

Senior Beth Daughters and Junior Olivia Parnell both played extremely well in the win for the Dons. Next game is at Encinal on Friday, December 20th at 6pm.

Go DONS!
