Power outages, fires and cancelled practices have become the norm for a team that has not lost a game since 2017, but the Lady Dons ended their DAL season in style with another win to take their season record to 21-0 (6-0 DAL) and extend their unbeaten run to 48 games. Next up the NCS playoffs. The Dons were forced to play their final game, and celebrate Senior night, at Las Lomas HS after the recent power outages, but that didn’t knock them out of their stride or stop them cruising to another comfortable win.
The Dons started the game with both of their injured seniors, Zoe Benisek and Mala Neuman, in the water and relied on Jewel Roemer to win the sprint and allow them to sub out immediately. Pleasantries over, the Dons set to work and were soon one up after a goal by senior, Mary Beth Heffelfinger. More goals quickly followed as Dons senior, Jewel Roemer scored four times in quick succession to put the Dons up by five. By the end of the first quarter the score was 7-0 after a second goal for Mary Beth Heffelfinger and one for sister Heidi. With an advantage built, the Dons rotated their squad and took their foot off the pedal to cruise to victory. Further goals came from Sarah Archer, Caroline Schirmer, Alana McCartney and a fifth for Roemer. The final score ended 11-5 with Roemer scoring five goals, Mary Beth Heffelfinger two, and other goals from Archer, Schirmer, McCartney and Heidi Heffelfinger. Now onto the NCS playoffs with the first round next week.
Finally, a mention for the Lady Dons seniors celebrated tonight: Zoe Benisek, Mary Beth Heffelfinger, Mala Neuman, Jewel Roemer and Brooke Westphal.
