Girls Varsity Lacrosse Falls Just Short in Sun-Kissed Showdown against Campo 11–9

On a cool Friday night—complete with a noticeably sun-kissed roster thanks to the upcoming prom—the Dons girls varsity lacrosse team battled toe-to-toe with Campo in a game that never lacked energy, intensity, or drama. Despite a relentless effort and multiple momentum swings, the Dons came up just short in an 11–9 heartbreaker at home.

From the opening draw, it was clear this would be a back-and-forth affair. Both teams traded goals and defensive stops, refusing to let the other pull away. Every possession felt crucial, and the tension only built as the game wore on.

Anchoring the Dons’ effort was an absolutely phenomenal performance in goal by Sarah Hession, who turned away a staggering 13 shots. Time and again, she stood tall against Campo’s attack, making highlight-reel saves and keeping the Dons within striking distance. Simply put—she was a brick wall.

Offensively, Kate Beaver led the charge with a hat trick. She was supported by a balanced scoring effort, with Grace Colaco, Christina Hageobeck, Reese Imrie, Emily Roberts, Ximena Espinosa, and Kelly Reidenbach each contributing a goal.

Campo’s defense made assists hard to come by, but Charlotte Gellman managed to thread the needle twice for two assists, while Ximena Espinosa added another.

The battle for possession was just as intense. Grace Colaco controlled the draw circle with six draw controls, while Reese Imrie added three and Kelly Reidenbach chipped in two. Emily Roberts even snagged one from the attack side, showcasing the team’s hustle across the field.

Ground balls were equally contested, with Grace Colaco and Reese Tierney each scooping up two. Charlotte Gellman, Julia Lyons, and Kelly Reidenbach added one apiece, helping keep the Dons competitive throughout.

Though the final score didn’t fall in their favor, the Dons showed grit, resilience, and plenty of promise. They’ll look to bounce back quickly as they regroup and prepare for their next matchup at home Tuesday at 7pm against Miramonte.
