Campo Exacts Bit of Revenge on JV Boys Tennis

After the JV Dons took down Campo a few weeks ago for its first rivalry win in six seasons, Campo got some retribution as the Dons fell 6-5 at home.

The singles matches were all won decisively, one way or the other, with Campo taking three of four.  Eddie Leung in Line 2 played patiently and took the win 8-4.  In Lines 1, 3 and 4, Reed Lusch, Hieu Ho and Connor McAndrew, respectively, dropped their sets as Campo featured mashers up and down the lines.

The Dons held the advantage in doubles, taking four of seven.  Interestingly, many of the matches saw Campo sprint out to a sizeable lead – and the Dons battle back.

In Line 1, Hugo De Torres and Brandon Fu came up big against a top-notch pairing to come from behind and take it 9-7.  Bryson Trimble and Parker Hulst in Line 2 fell behind early but definitely made a match of it, falling 6-8.  Owen Lee and Cade Yen (Line 3) dug themselves a 1-5 hole before nearly – but not – taking it in a tie-breaker.

Tyler Anderson and Conrad Smith in Line 4 rode their consistent brand of tennis to an 8-5 victory, making meaningful adjustments throughout the set.  Ilai Elbaz and Jack Roberts (Line 5), a new pairing, made some noise with an 8-3 win.  Teddy and Will Mrachek in Line 6 played one of the later games and stayed composed throughout but dropped the set 3-8.  In Line 7, Cade Krick and Charlie McIlwain oozed grit and delivered an impressive 8-6 win.

Though a loss is a loss, let’s be real – the Dons have closed the gap with Campo in a big way.
