Acalanes Goes Big: One Night, One Ballpark, One Community

Not many moments in life line up like this.

Halley’s Comet doesn’t exactly show up on a schedule you can circle on a calendar. And for a public high school baseball program, stepping onto the field at Oracle Park on a Saturday at 5:15 PM is just as rare, maybe even rarer in its own way.

This Saturday, the Acalanes  Dons take on Marin Catholic under the lights in San Francisco. Acalanes is proud to be part of the 20th Annual Dante Benedetti Classic.   It’s a moment that feels bigger than baseball.

Almost 600 (for the Dons)  tickets have already been sold, and that number keeps climbing. We are grateful for the big turnout. Your ticket supports Dante’s Boys Foundation, supporting over Bay Area children through sports and mentorships.  Blue is the color of the weekend,  in the stands, on BART trains, and across the city as the Acalanes community shows up in force to represent.

What makes this special isn’t just the venue. It’s everything and everyone around it.

Families, friends, and alumni are all pouring out of the suburbs and heading straight for the city together like one massive blue wave of anticipation moving in the same direction. With freeway closures expected to slow everything to a crawl, most aren’t even thinking about driving stress. They’re choosing BART instead, turning the ride into a moving pregame that starts the moment they step on board. Every mile closer to San Francisco cranks the energy higher. It’s not a commute anymore, it’s a countdown to something big. Here Come the Dons!

Before the first pitch, the energy is already building on the waterfront, where the Bay Bridge, sailboats, and city skyline set the scene for a true San Francisco pregame. Fans gather for food, baseball, and something bigger: connection. Old friends reunite with hugs and smiles, and take in a moment that will turn into a lasting memory.  With a forecast of 71 degrees, it’s one of those perfect SF evenings, the city alive, the bay glowing, and anticipation in the air before the game even begins.

There are nights you attend because you have to. And then there are nights like this, where you go because you know you’ll regret missing it. Acalanes in blue. The city lights. A ballpark that’s hosted legends, now welcoming a high school community stepping into something larger than themselves. Join in at Oracle, First Pitch by Chris Clark, Acalanes teacher and Sports Trainer at 515pm.

Saturday night isn’t just a game. It’s a gathering.
