The JV volleyball team continued its march through the DAL, improving to 5-1 in league play. Acalanes took on Alhambra on Tuesday for the 2nd time this season. While the Dons beat the Bulldogs easily in their last matchup, this time Alhambra put up a good fight. Alhambra’s defense was strong and they were not letting any balls drop. Every point seemed to be a long rally. Dons were a bit short-handed, so Natalie Marsh stepped up as the only setter and took care of business. The first set was extremely close and each point was a battle. Kira Wood did her part with some fire-y serves. Maya Paul charged ahead in the middle position playing very aggressively at the net. Defensive specialist Carly Coffee played tough with an early dig and hit from the back row. An Alara Rose tip to the middle and then an Emma Johnson power kill put the Dons up 15-10. However, a late surge of offense from Alhambra tied score up 20-20. It’s Dons! No it’s Dogs! It’s Dons! Wait it’s Dogs .. and so it goes to 26-26. Paul comes in to serve for 2 points and the Dons end the 1st set with a beautiful Chloe Wu pass followed by a nice Marsh set to Johnson for the gravy kill 28-26!
The second set was no less exciting. The Dons were down quickly 0-4. Tate Huisingh came into serve for 3 in a row and got the Dons back in the game. Claudia Lindgren, back from an injury, sparked the Acalanes offense and became a one-woman wrecking crew. Set that girl all day long!! Hanna Hageboeck contributed with a perfect hit right down the line. Wu followed with another save and Huisingh tied it up 14-14 with a timely kill. Acalanes and Alhambra continued to battle back and forth. Hageboeck came in to serve at 20-20 and BOOM! Ace for the young freshman. More long rallies and Dons finally close it out 25-22.
