With some late maneuvering around an uncertain schedule, the JV Boys Tennis Team hosted Las Lomas last Thursday. As Las Lomas had fewer players, the team competed across 12 lines—5 Singles and 7 Doubles—and delivered a strong overall performance, earning an impressive 10–2 team victory.
In Line 1 Singles, Jack Roberts battled through a tight match and came away with a hard-fought 9–7 win. In Line 2, Ilai Elbaz continued his strong play with a confident 8–3 victory. Eddie Leung held down Line 3and had many solid points and several solid winners against a tough and consistent opponent, but ultimately fell 3–8. In Line 4, Hirsch Peters delivered a commanding performance at 8–2. Jonathan Ding in Line 5 rounded out singles action with a no-doubter at 8–0.
The doubles teams once again delivered the goods. In Line 1 Doubles, Hugo De Torres and Brandon Fu brought solid groundstrokes and secured an 8–4 victory. Bryson Trimble and Connor McAndrew were in control from start to finish, winning decisively 8–1. In Line 3, Teddy and Will Mrachek continue to demonstrate an ability to put pressure on their opponents, prevailing 8–5.
Cade Yen and Owen Lee in Line 4 pressed when needed with some key net play and came from behind for a well-earned 8–6 victory. Conrad Smith and Tyler Anderson are building some serious momentum and delivered at 8–1. Colin Wilson and Parker Hulst drew a tough assignment, facing Las Lomas’s Line 1 and Line 3 singles players who were playing “out of position.” The final match of the day saw Cade Krick and Charlie Mcilwain in Line 7 and in a similar situation, facing the Line 2 Singles and the Line 1 Doubles players. In that context, Cade and Charlie’s 8–3 win was that much more impressive.
The JV Dons exhibited strong focus throughout the afternoon, resulting in a group effort to be proud of against a familiar rival.
