Last week the JV Boys Tennis Team played a pre-season match vs. Campolindo at their courts. Campo is always an extremely tough opponent but our team showed great effort and determination through the 11 lines we played–4 Singles and 7 Doubles. This was the most competitive our JV Boys have played against Campolindo in the last five years due to our composure and grit in the match!
A few highlights:
In Line 1 Singles, Eddy Leung came up just short in a 6-8 match–close the whole way. In Line 3 Singles, Jack Roberts was down 1-7, but fought back to to 7-7. He came up just short as it ended up 7-9. Impressive comeback to say the least! Hirsch Peters at Line 4 showed great determination in a match that ended 4-8.
In Line 2 Doubles, Hugo De Torres and Brandon Fu played well and kept it close for a 6-8 score. In Line 3 Doubles, Reed Lusch and Conrad Smith battled to 8-8, before dropping the tiebreaker, ending up at 8-9 (4-7)–not bad at all for two Freshmen playing against bigger players with a lot of skill and experience. In Line 4 Doubles, Cade Yen and Owen Lee were in a nip-and-tuck dogfight the entire match and prevailed in their tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-4). In Line 5 Doubles, Will and Teddy Mrachek came back from a 2-7 deficit to win their tie-breaker 9-8 (7-4)–a remarkable comeback! In Line 6 Doubles, Colin Wilson-Charlie McIlwain racked up four games against the same team that had played Will and Teddy, but lost 4-8. Finally, in Line 7 Doubles, Eddy Leung-Tyler Anderson prevailed 8-4 against a team that included a Line 1 Doubles player who had played earlier in the day.
The JV Dons showed composure and a never-say-die mindset by keeping matches close and rallying back from lop-sided deficits. Well done by the entire team regardless of any scores where we did not prevail in the W-L column!
Go Dons! We will be back on the courts Tuesday 3/3 against Emerald at home.
