AHS Swim Team Time Trials Take Place – 2/19/26

The Swim Team warms up for Time Trials on Thursday, 2/19.

After a few days of rain, the swim gods smiled on Acalanes Thursday as the swim team began their time trials.  This is the first “meet” of the season where everyone clocks times for events to use as a “base” time for the year.  The swim team is headed up this year by returning Head Coach NIck Inserra and newcomer Murray Hannan from Springbrook. There is a strong group of freshmen joining the team this year – it’s all very exciting!

The meet started off with the 200 Free – Freshman Karly Thor made her mark on this event, winning by well over 6 seconds.  Her time is just over one second off the NCS Consideration time!  Frosh Gen Balfour came in second.  A frosh boy, Aiden Castro took first in the men’s event, with sophomore Gavin Barclay and senior Mason Schlehr close behind.

Junior Evya Smyth took the 100 IM – she is coming back from DOUBLE shoulder surgery last year!  GO EVYA!  Sophomore Ella Schlehr was second.  Frosh Duncan Suva won the men’s event.

Sophomore (and superstar!) Malin Stone won the 200 IM in an NCS Consideration time! Karly Thor finished second and Frosh Anika Rehn took third.  Frosh Gunner Grant took the mens race, with sophomores Charlie Holmes and Ryan Gerhardt taking 2nd and 3rd.

Sophomore Elena Gerhardt won the sprint race – 50 free!  She was followed CLOSE behind by junior Adelyn Horciza and sophomore Lily Briones.  Gunner Grant won the men’s race, with juniors Wilson Daughters and Thomas Butler-Kurimai taking 2nd and 3rd.  Gunner’s time was less than a second off NCS Consideration!

Sophomore Mave McAlister won the women’s 50 fly, while Charlie Holmes won the men’s event.  Frosh Wes Martin and Logan Lewis took 2nd and 3rd.

ANOTHER amazing frosh, Jayna Guiro, won the women’s 100 fly event (I’m SO excited about the future of this team!!!), while Gunnar Grant won the men’s race.  Malin Stone won the 100 Free, just over a second off NCS Consideration.  Anika Rehn was close behind in 2nd, and Karly Thor was 3rd – all swam under one minute.  Sophomore Max Musch won the men’s race, with Thomas Butler-Kurimai finishing second and senior Sebastian Strittmatter finishing 3rd – all swam under one minute as well.

Anika Rehn won the 100 Back, with Malin Stone and Evya Smyth finishing 2nd and 3rd, while Mason Schlehr won the men’s event, with Aiden Castron and Max Musch in 2nd and 3rd.  Senior Audrey Martin won the 100 Breast for the women, with Adelyn Horciza and Frosh Elinor Chen hot on her heels.

It was a strong showing by the newcomers to our team – they did amazing!  Looking forward to a great season full of great times!  Next meet is the Granite Bay Invitational on 2/27 and 2/28.  GO DONS!
