We opened the week locked in, in a collar and elbow war with Miramonte, back and forth like a chess match on the mat. Arm drags, sprawls, late escapes, nothing separated us. It came down to the final match of the night. One last scramble. One last shot. This time, the whistle didn’t fall in our favor. But we had no time to sulk! As we faced Concord High School , the three-time defending league champions. A heavyweight bout if there ever was one. We made the call to sit a few of our younger wrestlers, took our lumps, and absorbed the defeat. It is a privilege to compete at such a level. Sometimes you take the lessons learned an strategize in order to set up the comeback later.
The weekend was filled with excitement as we spread out. Our Varsity Boys attended the Puma Classic held in Santa Rosa. Ryan Crane and Kirian Gracie battled through, grinding out hard fought wins against tough competition. Our girls made their way to Clayton Valley Charter where Lilah Kring and Jill Pierce wrestled with poise and strength both earning 3rd place in their weight classes.
Not to be left behind, a good sized JV team traveled to the Trojan Classic in Castro Valley Landon Page showed up with incredible dominant focus that translated to winning, he took home a well earned first place in his respective weight class. Dillion Sinha showed strength and perseverance as he quickly pinned opponents earning him a 3rd place finish. Aiden Burley’s swift moves helped him move up the brackets to take home fifth place. Dario Hamidi used some chess moves never seen on the mat, his ability to read his opponent’s next move earned him a 6th place finish.
Not impressed yet? There were over 500 wrestlers at the Trojan Classic, yes my mouth dropped as well when I saw so many athletes. Come to Campolindo tomorrow at 6:00 PM to Support our DONS !
