Welcome to the 2025-26 Varsity Girls Soccer Season! Coming off a 10-4-6 season last year highlighted by a road NCS Playoff victory over perennial powerhouse Carondelet, this years team has a mix of familiar faces from last year and a group of new players looking to fill the big shoes of the seniors who graduated. Against that backdrop, the team hosted the Dougherty Valley Wildcats on a chilly Tuesday evening and left with a 3-0 victory.
The Dons controlled the tempo in the first half, putting pressure on the Wildcats defense from the outset of the game. The Dons had a few shots early in the game they weren’t able to convert, including one unlucky sequence where Reese Tierney sent a corner kick to Danica Green whose shot went just wide, and then another with the same duo where the shot caromed off the crossbar.
The Dons got on the board when Caroline Tumilty scored the opening goal of the season on a nice kick from distance. Caroline scored a second goal on a shot that was tipped by the goalie and sailed into the net just below the crossbar. Forward Grace Eppinger got into the scoring action later in the half on an assist from Lillian Polkinghorn to put the Dons up 3-0. The defense, led by Sierra Goyert, Avery Dement, Edie Berzansky, and Ella Culbertson kept the pressure off of goalie Alexa Bantique, who pitched a shutout in the first half.

Although neither team scored in the second half, the Wildcats did a better job controlling possession and putting pressure on the Dons defenders and goalie Maria Statnikova. Tori Hiatt had a couple nice plays, including a good tackle and through pass to Lillian. Grace Colaco also had a nice pass to Lillian whose shot was deflected before it could reach the Wildcat goalie. Edie had a great sliding tackle to prevent a Wildcat shot on goal. Final Score: Dons 3, Wildcats 0.

As the Technology lead for Boosters, I would be remiss if I didn’t ask everyone to (1) sign up to receive the daily emails for Acalanes Sports (click here), (2) visit the Girls Soccer page on the Boosters website that has story recaps, rosters, and schedules (click here), (3) use TeamSnap for all the normal reasons and to share good game pictures, and (4) visit HudlTV (click here) to watch the home game livestreams if you or other family members/friends are unable to attend in person. Go Dons!
Please come and cheer on the team as the take on Maria Carrillo at home on Friday, December 5th @ 7PM
